Ed Stafford went for a walk in April 2008. He finished 860 days later in August 2010. In between he trekked the entire length of the Amazon River, more than four thousand miles. Why? Because no one had ever done it. He wanted to be the first to accomplish an exploratory feat. Was it hard? Absolutely. There were poisonous snakes, stinging insects, jaguars, hostile locals, drug traffickers, and shortages of food, but Ed loved it. He had a mission. He had a goal. There was no way Ed was going to give up. Ed had decided he would not settle for a mediocre existence. He would pursue a great adventure with everything he had.[35]

You have been called to the great adventure of ruling your world and managing your domain. But God never forces you to do so. He has provided you with everything that is necessary to maximize your own life and everyone else’s life within your sphere of influence. But far too many men trudge through life—waking up to the same breakfast, heading to the same job, taking the same lunch break, driving home to watch the same television programs—only to wake up the next morning to do it all over again without any passion, zeal, or purpose to see God’s kingdom advance through ruling well.

Men, remember, what you do on earth pays forward into how you will be rewarded in eternity. What you do matters. Not just to others. It matters to you.
